Overall Rule Changes from Spring Tourney

Rule Changes and Restriction Updates 

Tournament starts October 1st, 2016 and ends January 1st, 2017


  1. Default start: Founder does not go to the University and you can choose your starting lift without having to roll.
  2. Prestige occults were removed and the occult bloodlines were made into advantages and handicaps. Before you start you are required to choose what occult type your bloodline will follow or whether you want an option of mixed bloodline. There are no restrictions on spouses or breeding partners unless you take an additional breeding handicap.
  3. Major overhaul of Advantages/Handicaps section. We created many new advantages and handicaps you can choose from and removed some of the old ones. You can take as many as you want but there is a cap of +40 total points.
  4. Universal rules:
    • Simbots and Imaginary Friends are now allowed in your family. Imaginary Friends may not be turned real before they reach Young Adult age. Then you are free to marry them.
    • Dusty Old Lamp is now allowed to use if you find it during the game as well as the LTW. It is restricted by Paranormal and you are allowed to make your wishes (some of them are restricted - see Playing Supernatural Sims for further info) and even set the Genie free.
    • Founders doing University start are not allowed to spend any money at home between terms.
    • If you bring a comfy bed from the University, you may NOT use it until you lift Paranormal/Criminal.
    • To finish the challenge you are not only required to lift all the mandatory restrictions but also complete one of the new Ending Requirements
    • You are now allowed to either delete or move ITF portal when it spawns on your lot. You can only move it ONE TIME during your initial house building. If you decide to move it, it must follow all restrictions on object placement currently in place. After that, you may not move it again until you lift Athletics.
  5. Restriction updates:
    • Architect: You are only allowed to build TWO levels of your house.
    • Athletics:
      • Base Game requirements were lowered to level 8 Professional Sports career.
      • Athletics now restricts you to only using Basic Training tone when working out.
    • Business: You can buy a maximum of 7 items per week, and a maximum of 14 of each build category per week. Your quota resets Monday each week at midnight and does not accumulate.
    • Criminal: Now restricts mooching money.
    • Culinary:
      • Restricts mooching food.
      • Doesn’t limit rummaging through trash anymore, but you may not keep any food items you find that way.
      • If Naturalist is lifted, you may cook anything that doesn’t require a stove.
      • Fire pit is not restricted anymore. You may grill one marshmallow as your one meal per day. After Naturalist you may also grill fish, fruits and veggies over the fire pit.
      • Your daily rations are changed to 1 meal per day for your sims AND 1 meal per day for your pets. One meal for pets means either filling a pet bowl or feeding fish in an aquarium.
    • Education:
      • Your children are required to go to school and must not be late. If they are late or skip the school entirely, you get a blooper.
      • Children must always Work Hard at school until their lesson ends or they get overworked and switch to Normal automatically. They may not use any other “work” tones, including working on their homework.
      • Now restricts teen driving.
      • Removed restriction on how many meals a teen can cook per day.
    • Entertainment:
      • Doesn’t restrict teen driving anymore.
      • Restricts using Toy Oven.
    • Espionage: You may not interact with children outside of your household unless you are visiting their house. Children can’t go anywhere. If they autonomously visit your lot, you must send them away.
    • Gamer:
      • Renamed to Communications
      • Rummaging through trash and dumpster diving is not restricted anymore, but you are not allowed to keep any restricted stuff you may find.
      • Base game method of the lift changed to:
        1. Max Logic/Charisma/Writing
        2. Get to level 4 in Science, Business, and Criminal
        3. Complete all Charisma Skill Challenges
    • Master Thief:
      • We would like to make it clear that being accidentally late for work is not an accidental rule break. You don’t get a blooper for that, but the rules require you to quit. It’s not possible to take a blooper and keep your job!
      • If you get demoted on your job you must immediately quit.
    • Medical:
      • Shower in a can is restricted. You may not buy them, use them or bring them home until Medical is clear. There are no exceptions.
    • Military:
      • You may not interact with children outside of your household unless you are visiting their house. Children can’t go anywhere. If they autonomously visit your lot, you must send them away.
      • Zombie days are no longer associated with Military restriction.
    • Naturalist:
      • Prerequisites were removed. Naturalist can now be lifted even with a founder.
      • Science requirement for Ecological Theory step was lowered to level 7.
      • Naturalist no longer restricts pets breeding.
      • Collecting seeds is not restricted. Anyone can collect them, but only the sim working on Naturalist lift is allowed to plant them.
      • Alchemy skill is not restricted by Naturalist anymore and you are allowed to make elixirs with ingredients bought in Elixir store.
      • Sculpting Topiary is not restricted.
      • Sims are NOT allowed to make snowmen or snow angels.
    • Paranormal:
      • Once you lift Paranormal, anything at the Elixir Store can be purchased and used regardless of other restrictions still in effect (although you DO need to lift Business in order to visit the store).
      • On Zombie nights you may not be outside at all. If your home is on stilts you may not go outside to move to another floor (ie. from basement to above-ground floors and vice versa).
    • Politics:
      • Your sims may not use Funny interactions.
      • Your sims may not ask for promotions or rises.
  6. Optional Clears:
    • They do not earn you any points but can be lifted along with another regular restriction.
    • Advanced Technology restriction was removed.
    • Most prerequisites for Optional Clears were dropped.
    • Alien Technology no longer awards points. Instead, it will unlock the Lifetime Reward special items without any further restrictions, so you can use them right away.
      • Lifting Alien Technology will also grant you a privilege to add 15 more days to your Young Adult life span settings while also expanding the time limits for long-lived sims to 90 days until uncontrollable and 105 days until forced to move out.
      • Meteor method of Alien Technology lift has been changed. Surviving a meteor strike will no longer grant you a free AT lift. Instead, it will allow you to skip certain requirements in other methods.
  7. Bonus Point categories:
    • Copious Librarian was changed. It now composes of two parts - Collecting books from work opportunities and spouse inventories, but capped much lower than the original one used to be, and writing Masterpieces (a genre unlocked at 10 level Writing after you write 25 other books).
    • Many new bonus point categories were added.
    • Points are now capped low enough to provide some variety for even base game players. You are no longer pushed to complete everything as it is no longer used for tie breaking.
  8. Scoring:
    • The base score is 19, 1 point for each regular restriction lifted.
    • Points from Handicaps/Advantages are capped at +40.
    • Bonus points are capped at +250.
    • There is a new scoring component called Time Modifier, which is counted as 300-xxx (xxx being total number of sim days it took you to finish the challenge). The resulting number may come out negative if you exceed 300 days.
    • Bloopers:
      • You can make up to 20 accidental rule breaks before you fail the challenge.
      • First 5 are free, but every additional blooper after that is penalised by -1 point.
    • Restarts:
      • Quitting without saving and returning to an older save is now allowed only once per game. It will also cost you -5 points. After that, no more restarting from previous saves unless your game glitches to the point where mods and cheats don’t help. If it makes you fail, then you failed.
    • “Perfect score”:
      • The “perfect score” cap was entirely removed!
      • The Time Modifier should make enough variety so there will be no ties.
      • If we still get two players with identical total score, there will be no additional tie breaking and they will share their place. But we believe it’s not very likely to happen.
